BETA CLUB
-
We are an academic honor society.
-
Scholars must achieve and maintain a 3.5 GPA to be inducted and stay in the club.
-
For middle school scholars, we evaluate membership with every quarter report card and for high school scholars, we evaluate at every semester report card.
-
Scholars must maintain a 3.5 GPA on every report card grade (we do not look at progress reports) to maintain full membership. If a scholar receives below a 3.5 on a report card (so quarter for middle school and semester for high school) then he is given one grading period of probationary membership to raise his grades back up.
-
Nothing should change about the scholar’s participation in club activities or their community service while they are on probation. They should just be striving to raise their GPA back up to a 3.5.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
-
In addition to maintaining a 3.5 GPA on every report card, scholars are also required to complete community service hours (20 over the summer, 20 over the fall semester, and 20 over the spring semester).
-
For our new inductees, their first community service hours will be completed over the summer and will be due during the first two weeks of the 2015-2016 school year.
-
For the summer service, we generally allow scholars to find an organization or cause that interests them individually and complete their service on their own. **Community service is anything that you are not paid to do, or does not benefit you directly. **
-
To keep track of your hours, scholars should go to the links section on this page OR CLICK HERE and fill out the form. All hours will be collected electronicaly beginning Fall 2015.
MEETINGS & CONVENTIONS
-
Our meetings will normally be conducted during the school day in the mornings.
-
In the fall, we will elect new club officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer); officers will play a vital role in planning our collective community service.
-
Last year, we worked several concessions for UK athletic events in order to raise money for our club to attend the Kentucky State Beta Conventions.
-
The state holds both a Junior and Senior Beta convention every year in Louisville. The convention has academic and talent competitions, volunteer opportunities, and chances to win scholarships.
